What is bki's comment policy?
Bki pre-moderates comments on our blog posts and post-moderates comments on news stories. We never censor political or ideological opinions, but may delete comments that include the following transgressions:
- Are abusive, off-topic or use foul language
- Include ad hominem attacks or comments that celebrate death or illness of any person, public figure or otherwise
- Include racist, sexist homophobic and other slurs
- Are solicitations and/or advertising for personal blogs and websites
- Thread spamming (you've posted this same comment elsewhere on the site)
- Meant to provoke other commenters or staff at bki
- Contains content that may infringe upon copyright laws, intellectual property rights or other applicable laws or regulations
Why can't I see a comment I posted?
There are two reasons why you cannot see your comment:
- All comments pend approval before they appear on the site. Since the volume of comments on this site has grown rapidly, there is often a delay between a comment being posted and it being being approved. We appreciate your patience and ask that you refrain from posting the same comment repeatedly.
- Also, if your comment violated the above policy, it will not be posted on the site. We encourage our users to speak their minds freely, provided comments fall within our policy. We must respect our writers and protect them from vicious or inflammatory comments. They to are entitled to share their opinions without being subject to scathing and mean-spirited remarks.
Why am I blocked from commenting online?
There are two scenarios in which a comment might be blocked:
- A comment is abusive, off-topic, uses foul language or includes an ad hominem attack.
- If a commenter has repeatedly violated the above policy, a moderator may decide to ban that commenter's IP address. This means the commenter is banned from commenting ont he site in the future, even if the later comments are not abusive.
Can I include HTML in my comments?
We remove all html from comments to preserve formatting consistency.
If you don't allow any HTML, how can I include a link in my comment?
If you include a URL in your comment, it will be converted to a link. Only links to relevant news stories or sites are acceptable.
There is a comment that I find insulting and in violation of your policy. What can I do?
You can flag the comment as abusive by pressing the Flag As Abusive link below the comment. This alerts our moderators to review and delete the comments that don't comply with our policy.
